I attended my first birth at the age of 5 and have been fascinated by it since. I remember being in middle school and telling school staff I plan on becoming a midwife when I graduate and many of them didn’t even know what a midwife was. From then on, I quickly realized how many people see birth as an afterthought rather than an important life event. At age 14, I assisted in the delivery of my youngest sibling with the guidance of the CHOICE midwives. As a high school senior, I was inspired to complete my senior project on the normalization of pregnancy and childbirth, and I began volunteering at CHOICE in February of 2019. I completed the DONA International Birth Doula Workshop in May of 2019, shortly before graduating high school. I did doula work for about a year before being trained as a monitrice by CHOICE in May of 2020. I was accepted into the apprentice program at CHOICE in May of 2021 and I plan to work as a CHOICE midwife once I become a CPM.
