I was born and raised in Charleston WV, graduated high school in 2009 and then went off to Marshall University. My major was graphic design, but as the year went on interests changed. My younger sister became pregnant that year and I felt emotionally attached to the pregnancy. My sister was a senior in high school and I attended her birth in the fall. After that experience is when my interest in childbirth sparked. It took a while to start pursue that dream, I didn’t really know where to get started but decided to take a break from school to figure myself out.
I ended up meeting my husband that year also. We both felt an urge to leave WV, so in 2012 we made the decision to move to Columbus and start a family. In early summer 2013 we found out we were expecting. We were thrilled and immediately started researching options because I knew that a hospital birth wasn’t for me. I was hoping to find a birthing center and that is when I came across the CHOICE website. I had never really heard of anyone having a home birth but was intrigued so I set up a consult. After that first consult we felt comfortable with the decision of a home birth and successfully did so in February 2014. I was so moved by the entire experience and was eager to learn more about becoming a support person for laboring women and that’s when I came across ToLabor doula training here in Columbus thanks to Eliza. I attended the workshop in July 2014 and loved every minute of it. Not long after, I started volunteering at CHOICE in August 2015 was hired.
I attend both home & hospital births and teach private childbirth education classes.
Some of my personal interests include cooking, baking, playing with my son, taking photos, being out in nature and having a good time with family and friends. I am truly honored to be a part of the CHOICE family and love every single one of the women I work with here. I am eager to learn more from them and look forward to supporting & empowering families through their pregnancy and birth experiences.
